Rainy Days

Abigail's birthday seems to encourage weird storms.  Last year we had a snow storm on October 29 and this year, a hurricane!  Hurricane Sandy has kept us trapped inside for a few days and we need more ideas for energy outlets!  At least Daniel and Abby both love the "jump fort."  Abby loves to climb on the pillows and bounce on the couch while Daniel just loves to leap!  I love watching them (and how nicely it wears them out when we are trapped inside).

Abigail's First Birthday

Abigail is officially one!  I don't believe how quickly this year has gone and how quickly she has grown.  It still feels like she should be a little baby, so I suppose I need to come to terms with the fact that she is getting to be a big girl.  Her verbal and motor development is slower than Daniel's was and she is petite so she will still be babyish for a bit longer I suppose.

Here is the run down of Abigail at One!  We are nursing two to three times a day, sleeping approximately 7:30-4:30-7:00, then napping 8:30-9 and 1:30-3:00.  She plays hard, is in constant motion, and won't even pause to be cuddled for a minute.  Books are a bit of a challenge sometimes but she will sit for certain ones a couple times a day.  (Mostly I think she likes turning the pages.)  Whatever Daniel is playing with is of course the object of her desire so I have to referee much of the day and remind Daniel that she will lose interest in the toy in a few seconds so he needn't get mad.  When she isn't sleeping or playing, she is eating.  She loves to eat and I think she would do so 80% of her awake time if we let her.  The one thing we can't seem to get her to eat is milk.  We tried rice milk, formula, whole milk, strawberry milk. . . nothing will satisfy her except mommy's milk or whatever Daniel has in his sippy cup.  We even tried to put her milk in one of brother's sippy cups but that didn't work either.
Abigail is a happy little imp with a stunning smile and infectious laugh.  She loves anything that she can climb into (tunnels, forts) and take things out of.  She loves dogs, pictures of dogs, strange dogs, our dog - all dogs.  Her first word was "woof" - said when pointing to a dog.  She also says duck, Da, Pop Pop (who also has his own special wave), moo, and whas dat (said when pointing to something random).  She talks a lot but mostly incoherently.
People everywhere are attracted to her pretty face and gorgeous copper hair. If only I had a $1 for every time I've heard "wow, look at that red hair!"
She crawls around very quickly and wants to be down to do so all the time.  Many times she has tried to leap out of my arms to crawl around in unsavory places.
At her 12 month exam she weighed in at 19lb 1oz, and 29 inches tall (about 25% and 45%).  She has 8 teeth and 2 molars with more coming in.

Here are some more pictures of the party:

I couldn't find the decorations I had in mind so I made them myself! Pink and brown puppy prints and dog bones all around the dining room. They were seriously cute!

Her first gift was some sippy cups from Grammy - it was hard to get her interested in anything else.

What present, I'll eat this pretty paper.

Leaves, Leaves, Leaves!

I watched a friend's youngest two boys for a day while she went to her oldest's Halloween party at school.  We had a fun filled day of digging in the dirt, riding bikes, playing cars, "resting", and leaves. The boys had started making little leaf piles in the back yard and Jason decided they should have a manly pile, so he took a break from work and played with them for a while.  Their mom said this was their first time getting to play in leaves like this - they don't really have trees at their house. I think it went over well - they were all totally filthy and worn out by the time she managed to get them into the car to go home.

Not too sure about the leaf pile.
Loving the leaf pile
Getting ready for a leaf fight.
Yeah! Throw them in the air and let our moms try to get a cute picture of us under falling leaves.

Post-leaf fight sliding into giant pile of leaves.
What you do if you have to go and are covered in dirt!
The next evening we went to Jason's cousin's house for an Autumn cookout.  The kids got to play in more leaves and had a great time again.

Put Those Kids to Work

Abby helps me unload the dishes and Daniel is hard at work on his computer with his dad. I guess we just work them too hard!  (Maybe that is why Abigail is a bit crazy.  Watch the video below of her spinning in circles when she drinks!)

Pumpkin Patch Year 2

MOPs does an annual Paulus Orchard trip in the fall and last year I was so pregnant that I didn't get to really enjoy the time. This year my Mom is a MOPs mentor mom so she got to come, and Abigail got to join us too! The weather was a bit chilly with the breeze on the hill but the sky was clear, the air crisp, and the orchard smelled like autumn! Plus, my beautiful red-headed children look great with the autumn palate!
Abby on the baby slide having a great time!

Daniel volunteered again this year to hold a flower during the lesson about pollenation and how apples grow.
Enjoying the wagon ride through the orchard.

Checking out the tractor that gave us the hill-top orchard tour.

Picking our own apples right off the tree. Yummy!
