Beach Vacation
We went to Cape Hatteras the first week in September with Jason's parents, grandmother and great aunt Carrie. Steve's sister has a house there on the sound that she rented to us for the week. It was lovely.
We drove down Saturday when the weather was beautiful and were able to enjoy the beach for a few hours on Sunday. Sunday evening saw the weather take a turn and we spent the remainder of our vacation mostly indoors as the wind was wild and the sky dismally cloudy and dense with fog or drizzle. It was nice to have time to spend with Daniel and the family enjoyed their time with him too.
Thanks to Steve, we managed to take a daily outing. If the weather permitted, we took a walk on the beach.
Tuesday we toured the tip of the island and visited some local museums and civil war markers. There is a museum dedicated to all the shipwrecks that happen there at the cemetery of the sea! Apparently Cape Hatteras has always had horrible weather that dash dreams to the rocks!
Wednesday Daniel had a few more firsts. He rolled over for the first time (he won't let me get this feat on video yet) and was on his first boat! We took a ferry to the next island and hung out at the lighthouse there for a bit.
Thursday the boys and I went to the Hatteras lighthouse. There is a whole visitors center and parks department for this lighthouse complete with a hourly video describing how they moved the lighthouse inland a bit to save it from being washed to sea.
Friday we decided to give up and drive home. Of course, the wind died down and the sun decided to show up. I cried as we packed the car. We stopped and had lunch on the beach and then two and a half hours later, we stopped again in Nags Head to feed Daniel and enjoy the last beach before we hit the bridge to the main land.
We spent Saturday and Sunday enjoying the Marquiss's pool and the wonderful weather PA had been having while we were gone.
